On October 31st, the quarter-final of the 2015 "FLTRP Cup" National English Speaking, Writing and Reading Contest (Jiangxi Division) was held in Jiangxi Jiujiang College. 139 speechcontestants, 102 writing contestants, 120 reading contestants from 48 provincial universities, and instructors and expert judges from various schools participated in this competition.
The speech quarter-final contest in Jiangxi Division was divided into two sections: group game in the morning and the final in the afternoon. Candidates were supposed to give a speech on a given topic and answer follow-up questions in group phase. The speech was basedon an animation depicting the debate between Zhuang Zi and Hui Zi and was limited in three minutes. Impromptu speech and Q&A were examined in thefinal match. Contestants picked out a topic 20 minutes earlier and prepared a 2-minute speech. Computer-based writing and reading contests were arranged on the scene.
By virtue of beautiful language, wide knowledge, appropriate body language, solid basic skills and abundant self-confidence, students in our school have achieved good results in these three contests and won highly appreciation from the expert judges.
In the speech contest, Mei Zhou from No.13 Entrepreneurship class in School of International Trade won the Special Award (the No. 1 in the province), and Lou Yini from No.131 Business & English class in School of Foreign Language won the third prize.
In the writing contest, Both SunWeiwei from No.131 Business & English class in School of Foreign Language and Feng Yitian from No.142 International Finance in School of International Studies won the first prize, and Panxi from No.131 CPA class in School of Accounting won the third prize.
In the reading contest, Both LiuHui from No.131 CPA class in School of Accounting and Huang Xinying from No.145 Accounting class won the first prize, and Lai Jianing from No.131 Business& English class in School of Foreign Language won the third prize.
In order to get well prepared for the selection and training of the quarter-final contestants, School of Foreign Language initiated the training programs for good candidates in early April, adhering to the principle of meticulous selection and professional guide. 8 highly-qualified and dedicated Chinese and foreign teachers were arranged tocoach the 9 contestants chosen from the preliminary contest, the speech contestants in particular, were trained specifically in the two sections: prepared speech and Q&A, impromptu speech and Q&A. All the work laid a solid foundation for achieving satisfactory results in the quarter-finalcontest in Jiangxi Division.
