In the afternoon of Oct. 30th, Professor Zhou Liuxi, a doctoral supervisor from Beijing Normal University was invited to the School of Foreign Languages to hold a lecture on “Translation – a Pragmatic Perspective”. Professor Zeng Jianping, Vice Dean of School of Foreign Languages, together with other teachers and students participated.
Starting from linguistic research, Professor Zhou made a brief introduction of structural linguistics, functional linguistics and cognitive linguistics. After that, he introduced translation seen from a pragmatic perspective. Also, Zhou explained the conception and characteristics of Pragmatics in an easy-understanding way. Recalling his wonder trip in translation, Zhou emphasized the important role of strict instruction on his academic path. “I owe all my achievements in translation to my instructor,” Zhou said sincerely.
Professor Zhou also shared his poems and translations ever since his junior high school, arousing great interest among audience.
